Short Song Description:
Dexter wrote this song very astutely about what this country has become. He has relocated back to his home in the Cayman Islands, much to Nashville's loss.
|
Story Behind the Song:
When Sam first saw Dexter performing live in Nashville, he knew there was something special. Publisher Wes Burton convinced Dexter to go in the studio and originally produced the vocals, guitar and background vocals used here. He then turned the rest of the production, mixing and mastering over to Sam and this is the result. This song is timeless and still relevant.

THE SAME BOAT NOW
Dexter Bodden
Over the waves,
Or between the clouds,
Across the border line when darkness shrouds,
Day into night, I'm free to cry out loud.
We came over on different ships, we're in the same boat now.
Foreign tongues from human lips, we're in the same boat now.
Dirt poor, the filthy rich in the same boat now.
We're all tryin' to get a grip in the same boat now.
(bgv--
We came over on different ships, we're in the same boat now.
We came over on different ships, we're in the same boat now.)
Some of us say,
Of our own free will, (bgv--free will)
Those who broke the chains will not be free until,
We each have the choice of stern or bow. (bgv--stern or bow)
Get over our differences and get along somehow.
We came over on different ships, we're in the same boat now.
Broken hearts and broken hips in the same boat now.
Foreign tongues from human lips, we're in the same boat now.
All tryin' to get a grip in the same boat now.
Came over on different ships, we're in the same boat now.
The dirt poor, the filthy rich in the same boat now.
We came over on different ships, we're in the same boat now.
